︎ About This Project

In 2023, the Sun Prairie Public Library hosted an event to honor the South Asian community's continued support of their space. The night celebrated South Asian cultures through a meet and greet with award-winning author Kashmira Sheth, yoga and Bharathanatyam dance performance, henna art services, and South Asian refreshments.

Postcards

The overall goal for this project was to show the connectedness of South Asian culture, while also honoring its diversity. The postcards use colors and patterns inspired by textiles from several South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, and Nepal. The Indian pattern is specific to the state of Gujurat, as an homage to the event’s Keynote speaker, Kashmira Sheth.

The postcards also uses the display font Gotu, developed by Mumbai based type foundry EK Type. The typeface’s latin characters were developed to be similar to the shape of characters in South Asian languages.

Flyers

Graphics from the postcards were translated on two flyers. The first flyer (left) was adapted for printing in a standard office, while the second (right) was adapted for digital display.
